I'll propose that reading. Actually it's for "unsportsmanlike" which is too long a word to write in a forum, isn't it?

Simply the FIBA version of intentional. We Europeans like long words.

In my other sport we have "unsporting behavior" we referees abbreviate that as USB. Maybe you could use USML?

I was watching one of my AAU players in a game when I saw the following unfold:

A1 makes a steal, and is driving for the basket. B1 catches up to him at around the foul ine, and essentially tackles him from behind. The whistle blows, and I am thinking intentional foul, 2 shots and the ball.
Oh, how wrong I was.

The ref signals intentional foul. He then signals to count the basket. Note: no shot was taken. The scorekeeper and both coaches disagree, but he insists.
Okay. I am feeling a little queasy, as I think the fun just may be starting.

Now, player A1 is sent to the line for two foul shots. He makes both.
The referee requests another shooter from team A. Why, asks coach A? To shoot the foul shots for the intentional. What were those we just shot? The shots for the shooting foul.

Both coaches are stunned, and my head is starting to hurt.

Coach A finally sends A1 to the line. No can do. Mr. Referee informs all parties that the player intentionally fouled cannot shoot the foul shots.

The coaches are past stunned, and I have a nosebleed.

Player A2 makes both. The ball is given to A on the side, which was one of the few things he got right.

I took that league over a few years later as part of my junior program. The first thing I did was fire that "association".
You say "The ball is given to A on the side, which was one of the few things he got right," but as I understand it, an intentional foul was committed at "around the foul line," so the ball should be awarded to A at the spot nearest the foul, which would be on the baseline. So the one thing you think he got right, he actually got wrong!

Fouls are recorded in the scoresheet as P (personal, i.e., common), T (you know what this means, don't you? ), U (unsportsmanlike), D (disqualifying) and F (fighting). The number of free throws resulting from the foul is recorded as a subscript to the letter.

U corresponds to Fed's intentional, D to flagrant. The last type is used when a player comes in from the bench during a fight and is consequently ejected. Actually U fouls have not much to do with unsporting behavior, just as intentional fouls with intentionality.

The story he is telling is from the days before the rule change, which is more recent.

The ref that directed that disaster once called 3 games from a folding chair at halfcourt.
I wouldn't have used a folding chair, but a regular desk chair. I don't like to half-*** anything.

Actually, I would use a heat-massage rocker recliner. Oh yeah.

BTW - I once got kicked out of Sharper Image for testing their model massage chair! I was only in it for about a minute. I guess they don't like you to get in it face down.

And I'm sure your picture is up at the GNC's that have those massage chair models too.

He said it was "around", so if it was above the side would be the place. So he may still have gotten that part right.
