If I'm reading correctly the ball becomes dead in the exception listing when the shooter returns to the floor.

No.

The ball is still live (the ball hasn't gone through the hoop), so it's a common foul. A2 shoots 1-1 (if in the bonus), or just add the foul to B's total and start the next quarter.
