However, the player does not have to be in bounds for the throw in to be legal. If the ball was lobbed over a players head and bounced in bounds, and the player giving chase tried to save it but the player was out of bounds when he/she touched the ball, the throw in is legal and the ball is awarded out of bounds where the player tried (but failed) to save it.
