Yep, it's that time of the year......

HS is over for me, Rec Leagues are winding down (All-Star's in one league and league championships in another remain), and I have MS games through March....I've done 70 games this CY so far and this is by far my best season.

But, this Thurs, I removed a clock operator for not doing his job well enough and called an intentional foul on a defender who fell out of bounds onto the in-bounder; and today I called my first flagrant foul on a player (13) and ejected him; and later I tossed a scorekeeper for being a little too emotional for me.

Ah, with experience and this Forums help, I am so much more confident and these calls certainly become easier.

Am I sounding like Mark?

If you're suffering "withdrawl" take up a spring sport -- there's a "shortage" in almost all of them.

Is croquet a spring sport? From Mark Padgett's comments, working croquet sounds real easy, it'll be like stealing money.

great advice bob

the hope for my withdrawl lies in the softball season...reminds me of the SNL skit Robin williams does when he describes how golf was invented...toward the end he says that thell make a flat of ground and place a flag on it to give them HOPE...then surround it with sand and water to drive them nuts...can anyone run with this, the simularites of officiating???

gotta love my achilles!

My season was shortened from over 50 games to just 11. I had hoped to work some games later in the season. In June my achilles started hurting. After 6 weeks of wearing a protective boot (mine from 2005 when I had achilles tendonosis), the soreness went away. A chiropractor on a regular visit saw the lump on my ankle and asked if I had torn my achilles. A trip to specialist and an MRI showed I did tear it 2 months earlier. I have now rehabbed it and am able to return to somewhat of my normal running schedule. The lump(scar tissue from the tear) has gone down. My withdrawal pains are lessened because I coach high school track which begins for our team in January. CLOVERDALE what have you done to rehab your injury?

Are you kidding? It is an incredibly tough sport to officiate. And, to make things worse, all the players curse at you with British accents!

Our state's Christian schools had their state tournament at one of the local schools, so our association officiated it. I had the boys third-place game on Saturday, which was a blast.

Tight game in the first quarter, but in the second quarter the visitors go up by 12. They extend it to 17 in the 3rd quarter before white starts to come back. With a minute to go in the game we're tied!

It's 61-61 when the visitor's big man takes a 3-point shot at the buzzer. I was lead and didn't see what happened; partner called a foul on the white defender, who walked under the airborne shooter.

One made free throw and we're done. Great fun, and a great way to end the season.

In the past I've been more than ready to be done with basketball, but I had a great season this year. A lot less yelling from coaches this year for some reason.

Your partner's name wasn't Padgett was it?

I ordered several plants, and bulbs, that should arrive in early May. I was out in the garden today, trying to decide how many bags of composted manure to buy. Lawn looks good. Can't wait to get out there and get my hands dirty.
Do you use an AeroGarden? I've got my tomato plants going in those and then can transplant it outside.

Does anyone know of rec leagues that need officials in the Metro Detroit area? I've got my last two games tomorrow and Thursday...and then I'm in TDOS (The Dreaded Off-Season)!

I really miss officiating in the off-season! I haven't been able to find anything outside of the state JH & HS season!

Had a good season, though. Officiated even more varsity this year, had a BIG varsity girls game (HS) that was a cross-town rivalry at our local D1 school (Oakland University). Great experience to officiate in a larger venue with larger than usual crowds. Had a BLAST! (I think we were even on TV with that one!)

Anyway...great season...lost 32 lbs recently...still losing.
