You make the call

Saw this while watching tv last night? I dunno what I would have done in the situation. I couldn't tell if the kid stepped on the guy on purpose or not, I probably would have given him the benefit of the doubt based on the offending player's reaction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csYy8al3BHE

Also what is the ruling that was made?

The officials went to the monitor and looked at it. They ruled that it warranted a flagrant technical foul. The offending player was ejected.

I happen to agree with them. There was no need to go over and step on the fallen player's arm.

They clearly ejected the offender. Good call!

Flagrant technical. Dead ball contact.

It looked intentional to me -- anyone who accidentally steps on something that high off the ground normally trips over it. He carefully stepped right in the middle of the arm. Video is such a great tool for the officials.

In last replay notice the little extra mustard kicking fallen player's arm away.

Easy call.

He did track the guy down after the EJ, slapped him on the backside, shook his hand, said my bad and then rolled on to the locker room.

pretty good sportsmanship, after the fact.

So does all dead ball contact that is deemed intentional warrant a flagrant technical? I would think it does. WHAT IF the officials deemed the contact unintentional? Is it still a flagrant technical due to dead ball contact?

after watching the replay again I too agree that it was Intentional to step on the player's arm. I think that the officials made great use of the viedo to make the right call.... When watching the game last night I was a little unsure if they made the right call.

All dead ball contact that is worthy of being penalized is at least an intentional technical foul, which results in two FTs and possession of the ball at the division line. If the contact rises to the level of flagrant, then the offender is ejected. The foul does not have to be deemed flagrant though. It could just be deemed intentional. If it isn't deemed to be intentional, then it is ignored by rule unless it is by or on and airborne shooter.

I know what you meant, but some might be confused by that statement.

All dead ball contact that is intentional or flagrant is a technical foul. Dead ball contact that is not inentional or flagrant (or by or on an airborne shooter) is ignored.

How about good sportsmanship to begin with? "My bad " doesn't cut it.

Sort of like jail-house-remorse. He's not sorry he did it, he's sorry he got busted.

There was just a case like this a couple weeks ago, and the player was given a flagrant. Good grief.

Oh I agree with "sportsmanship to begin with".

I should have used my padgett sarcasm face on my original post.
