working a boys jv game. team A is up by two with 3 seconds to go in game. team B has endline throwin after a team A freethrow. B1 throws a bullet pass to B2 who is standing on sideline right in front of his bench (3/4 court pass). If you're sure that this is the last shot - then as soon as I see the ball airborne, I think you can make that quick jaunt to the mid-court circle to rule on the play, so long as you will not get into anybody's way trying to play defense. It's better to be 25' away than 50'. You do have about 2 seconds while the ball is airborne. (Maybe 1 if the pass is a bullet.)
