You can expect video tape review of every game you work.
Most times it will be with an NBA staff member. Usually the last day, you're on your own with your crew to break it down, chart each play and go from there. I don't know personally what the level of ball is in Vegas, as I only attended the Denton Camps. But I spoke with Ronnie Garretson during the year and he said the level of play in Vegas was BETTER than the play in Texas, and honestly, the best teams in Texas were pretty d*mn good. They will teach you NBA rotation, floor coverage, how to get the best angle (open look vs.closed look) what each officials primary area of responsibility is, etc. They feel that if "they can get you to the right place on the floor" then the rest is up to you as far as call selectivity etc. They usually do not get into the call selectivity aspect of it. Although they will offer philosophies on what's a good no call, a cheap "and one" etc. As Bob and Ronnie say, "we are here for you. If you want to talk basketball all day, we'll talk. If you chose not to, that's up to you, but make the most of the people that are there" As far as clothing, shorts, and black and whites. Don't worry too much about "all black" shoes, they're not going to be nit-picky about that. One more thing. If you chose to use "Pro" mechanics, two hands for numbers, "loose ball" calls etc, that's fine, but NOT mandatory. If you want to work on your High School or College mechanics, they will help you make them the best they can be. Just go and pick their brains as much as you can. It really is a unique opportunity that you will not regret. And lastly, JUST HAVE FUN! ![]() |
