has anybody signed up for the basketball officiating camp held in orlando florida called the infosports combine? if you are not from orlando fl, or surrounding areas you should seriously consider pulling out and getting your money back! this camp is a bust. if you are from orlando this camp may be benificial to you, but is a waste of money if you are traveling from a long distance.

i just want people who have signed up to be aware of what they are getting into.

Dan_ref Tue Apr 23, 2002 08:55pm

I've heard of it. Why a bust? Fla work only?

the bulletin says, "a report of every referee will be sent to the director of officiating of the nba." this could be true, but the evaluators for the camp have no connections, relation, or credibility to the nba. (i know the "invited"* evaluators personally) any one can say, "well, i'll let Ed Rush know what kind of job you did." but it will not have any effect of you getting any leagues or anything. the only thing that will be of any worth at this camp is on court experience. no one needs to fly or drive a great distance just to get some highschool level experience.

*invited does not mean guaranteed presence at the camp.

i just wanted to warn people about this camp because they give a false sense of hope for any leagues and also a false sense of a true pro evaluation. just a heads up.

Tony,

Many thanks for the heads-up. The fee was $50, and I'll try to get it back. If not, I've still saved $250 in travel expenses that I can put toward C2C in Gainesville.
BTW, I know you said at Tony Mac's camp that you are going, but had you already registered for Vegas?

i signed up for the c2c camp in vegas way back. about a week ago i called mike rush and asked him where the TBA c2c would be held and he confirmed gainseville. i asked him if it was ok to switch from vegas to gainesville and he said no problem. if you have signed up for the vegas site i am sure it would be no problem for you to switch as well.
take care

june 20-23, and gainesville is about an hour and a half from orlando(give or take what time you leave in the day)

More than likely, if you haven't already got your money in for C2C, you're probably too late. They fill up fast.
Tony, have you heard any different?

iref21 Thu Apr 25, 2002 09:21am

I would double check this, their might be some spots open.
I would go on the internet and reg, I am sure you'll be able to get feedback that way.

DrakeM Thu Apr 25, 2002 11:25am

By no means was I trying to discourage anyone from inquiring about availability. Just to do it soon!
I've been to c2c several times and it's the best "teaching"
camp around. (IMO)

DrakeM

I hope I didn't come across as a harda@@, I was just giving advice on how I reg.. Take care and thanks for your advice.

Drake, what should those of us who have never been and are going to c2c expect? What type of games will we be officiating, what is the protocol on apparel. I assume shorts, but we don't need the gray shirts do we?
