6 players on court - Timeout

Hi all,

Was discussing this situation that came up in an IHSA tournament game this year.

Team A has 6 players on the floor, team A's coach sees this and calls timeout. while both teams are huddled by their bench the officials realize what just happened and they call a tec on Team A for having to many players on the floor.

Is this the correct call?

Nope. The rule infraction must be detected while it is being violated in order for it to be punished. The officials missed this one.
10-1-6 Penalty "Penalized if discovered while being violated."
