Sox return the favor by completing a 3-game sweep the Rays yesterday. Lester got the win, but he threw a ton of pitches in only 6 innings. He looked shaky early, but only gave up one run. Kazmir took the loss for the Rays. I think they said it was his first start of the year, after being the DL.
Early candidate for the "What Was I Thinking" award: Dusty Baker. Cincinnati is horrible. Why leave a cushy studio job for the Reds? Bronson Arroyo, who looked so promising in Boston, is now 1-4. I haven't seen him pitch, so I don't know if he's throwing well and not getting support, or if he's just breaking down already. That would be too bad. |
Mike Lowell factoid
While watching the Red Sox in Detroit, the Tiger announcers [Mario Impemba and Rod Allen are really fine baseball fans without rules problems] mentioned that Red Sox captain and third baseman, Mike Lowell, has the highest fielding percentage for a third baseman in the history of the game. :)
Edit: I knew. I called it! Lowell hit a 3 run homerun to tie the game. The man is a Tiger killer. |

What more can you ask of a closer? But I'll take it!!! |

I wonder if the Red Sox defense pumped him up in any of his other chances. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/al...smiley-005.gif |

Greg Maddux becomes the ninth pitcher to reach 350 wins.
Dice-K goes to 6-0. Papelbon gets the save, after blowing his last 2 chances. (And Youkalis is on fire.) Johan Santana finally gets his first home win for the Mets. |
