Just Starting Out

Hi guys, I am just getting involved in becoming an official and have been hanging around this board for a week or so. I did some searching through the old posts for advice for a new official and found several posts that were very helpful, it is always nice to get advice from seasoned professionals. I can see this board is going to come in handy and be a valuable asset.

I just wanted to introduce myself, so when you see a post and think who is that guy, now you know.

I just got my rule book yesterday, so now I am off to learn.

Welcome to the club. Ask lots of questions. Don't be surprised, however, if instead of a direct answer you get pointed to a specific rule.

And don't be offended if the answers are sometimes peppered with sarcasm. The sarcasm is most likely a passive-aggressive shot at another poster.

ROTFLMAO!
Definitely the most funny thing I've read so far this month.

I won't worry about the sarcasm, it tends to keep things lively and I am not the type to take things personal. I am sure as I progress I will have lots of questions and it would be great to be pointed back to the rule first. That is the only way to learn.

Mike, Two key points here:

1) Lurking and researching before asking questions to this forum is always good - helps with the aforementioned sarcastic responses.

2) Sucking up to the "seasoned professionals" is very smart!

WELCOME!

Newbie

Fellow Newbie,

This was my first year officiating and this forum proved very helpful with rules and specific case situations. I also enjoy the sarcasm (and thought it was cool when they ripped that guy a new one regarding the Stanford-UCLA thread). My first year of officiating was fantastic - my wife loves the fact that I quit coaching and no longer give a crap about winning and losing. I will continue to visit the forum to get professional insight!!

I have been really enjoying reading the post with specific situations that happened. It is nice to get some insight into what you actually see and do and how people view different game situations. A good discussion over something really keeps things going.

Isn't it so much better than coaching?!? I won't ever go back. Maybe when my kids get older...... nah.
