Virgin jv players in Varsity tournament?

Has anyone heard that jv's can't play in a varsity tournament if they didn't play in a varsity game during the regular season? I thought that a player is eligible to play if they are on the roster for said game regardless of past varsity playing experience ? (the jv's I'm talking about played in regular jv games and are totally eligible by grades and attending regular jv practice)

There might be some rule or by-law that your State Association enforces for post-season tournaments, but there isn't anything in the rule books about this. It's pretty routine around here...schools can have (I think) 14 on the roster for post-season tournaments, so they generally bring up a couple JV players.

Based on the title of this thread, I can see it going downhill very quickly or getting locked...maybe both

LoudWhistle, if you are asking from an official's standpoint it is really non of our business who is or isn't on the roster. We ref the game and if we suspect shennigans or wrong-doing then we report it to the assignor/commish/game management and then let the powers-that-be handle it from there.

The only rules governing varsity vs. junior varsity, or academic eligibility, or playing time restrictions are all set by state and/or local governing bodies of the sports.

And believe me, I'm not checking for that.

Good point BNR, I was asking because a parent asked me if what I posted was true as far as jv's not playing in varsity tournaments, unless they had played in varsity games ealier in the season, I told them there was nothing in the rule book that I had run across, but I knew where I could find the absolute answer, so that's why I'm asking.

I have seen this as a common practice in other sports too (like soccer) where teams "expand their roster" at the end of the season for the playoffs to give the better JV players more experience at least practicing with the Varsity...... while they haven't been on the Varsity squad all yr.
