High School - Scorekeeper Required?

Ohio High School JV game. Visiting team scorekeeper unable to attend. Visiting coach supplies roster, marks starters, gives to home/official scorekeeper 15 minutes before game.

Official begins game with home team shooting technical foul, gives home team ball to begin game. Reason he states is visiting team did not supply a scorekeeper in timely manner.

Was the official correct in doing this?

It is my, and the other official working the game's, opinion that the only scorekeeper required by rule is an official scorekeeper supplied by the home team.

There is no rule making it mandatory for a visiting team to supply a scorer. The only rule extant is that you must have an official scorer, and the R designates who that is pre-game.

That's because it was made up, contrived, pulled from the dark recesses of somebody's bowels.

You are 100% factually wrong in your assumption ( when ... assume ... - just you not me this time)

He was talking about the rule, not the situation. Don't be so defensive.

Rule 2-4-1. That's the only listed requirement in the rule book.

Sinse you capitalized "if," it seems that you don't believe me. That's your right. A bit of advice, try not to assume the worst. Really makes your 2nd post pretty ironic, if you ask me.

BITS is perfectly able to defend himself. I'm just offering advice. Take it or leave it.
