Is it not a violaion to cause the ball to not hit the rim. However, it is a violation.

Why would you play on? It's a violation.
Ball hits the backboard, players may enter the lane; however, it still must hit the rim or the shooter has violated.

Rookie Officials: Snaqwells makes an excellent point here. Please make a mental note of who actually violates here, not the "rebounders", just the shooter.
