Everybody has a different interpretation. Any kind if pull up should be automatic unless there are defenders legitimately underneath. If it looks unnecessary, it should be called. The reason for the rule is to prevent taunting or intimidation, so if that appears to be the motive, you don't want to risk the potential of escalating tensions or emotions by the opponent.

Since you are fairly new to this board (assuming you haven't had another alias) I think I should let you know the term "automatic" isn't to be used in our vocabulary 'round here. That term is almost as bad as "over the back" or "reaching". Speaking of over the back, has anyone ever seen a ref signal this alleged violation? Some of the funniest sh!t ever...
