Talking

When is a player allowed to hang on the rim, other than after a dunk attempt, and only to prevent injury?
Heres a play that happened. A1 goes up for an attempted alley oop, bad pass, A1 never gets the ball. He proceeds to grap the rim, with both hands. He claims that the reason he grabbed the rim was becausue there were players underneath and he was trying to protect himself. Legitimate reason or BS?? I said BS, and gave him the T.

Well...were there guys under him? If they were reasonably close and he thought he might get hurt, let it go. If there was no one within 5 feet, whack.

Did he just grab the rim or did he do a pullup/swing in addition to grabbing it. When ther are players around, I'll pass if they simply grab, hang, then drop. If they do the chin-up and swingn and kick around, it's a T.
