Myths of Basketball

I have been asked to give a presentation to a group of coaches and volunteer officials from a Christian based youth basketball league. One of the things I want to include is "Myths of basketball" I had a list of many myths but recently moved and they are buried deep within a storage unit Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Over the back is a foul
Reaching in is a foul (as discussed in recent posts)
You can't catch your own airball

And that the count is in effect during a throw in. I've heard that one a couple of times.

Also that the official is supposed to count it by 2's...or 3's...

Let me save you all some time:

Most Misunderstood Basketball Rules

I thought this was great! I make copies of this on game day & pass them out to fans after introductions, so we're all on the same page

You have two full steps after you stop a dribble. (yes.. I've heard that)

If the ball is past the half court line you have established front court status.

Refs are blind.

Isn't the fumble rule different now??..

If a player is dribbling and loses the ball they can now go secure the ball and then begin a new dribble. Correct??

Only if the loss of control is caused by the opponent.

Not that I'm aware of...
A player may always pickup a fumble before/after a dribble.

When a dribble ends has been changed as in 4-15-4d
In that situation the player may begin a new dribble, but what you described sounds like an illegal dribble to me.

That if a player goes out of bounds during play, he cannot be the first to touch the ball when he comes back inbounds.

Biggest myths of all:

Coaches know the rules.
The rules you see in NBA games on television are the rules we use.
Officials care who wins.

Exclamation

The only rule coaches know is "any contact on my player is a foul and no contact on an opposing player is a foul".

My favorite -- "Basketball is a non contact sport." 10 people moving as fast as they can on an 84 X 50 court... with no contact. Right!
