if middle school/high school/AAU/CYO coaches spent time making rules, enforcing rules, teaching fundamentals, demanding sportsmanship, etc... the things you officials suggest they should be doing... they wouldnt have any time to do what they are really there to do...

put in 473 plays and yell at the refs!!!

Back in the early days of my career, I was speaking to my partner during warm-ups. One of the players was wearing knee-high, Cat-In-The-Hat striped socks. I asked my partner if there was any call on that, and his response was, "Only if you want to whack him for having bad taste!!"

My advice is just to forget about checking their socks. Who cares? BTW - do not ever, and I mean never, check girl's teams for matching bras.

There's just nothing like the voice of experience, is there?

Are you kidding? There's not enough liability insurance in the universe to cover something like this.

Not only that - it would be wrong. I almost said "flat out wrong" but I thought some of you might think I was making a pun.

Plus, I think "flat out" is an oxymoron.

No rules on the sock thing, but I did work in a crew one night that the R made the guys change into matching socks. One of this best calls all night.... that tell you anything?

I was calling a game in Hawaii a couple years ago and some of the girls were wearing what appeared to be unmatching swim suit tops under their jerseys (You could see them through the jerseys and the straps around their necks for all you pervs out there who are wondering how we saw them ). One of my partners wanted to enforce "uniformity" of underwear. My other partner and I told him he was out of his mind and that if he chose to go forward with such insanity, he was on his own. He backed down...what a maroon!
