Socks

I've been umpiring now for quite a few years and I want to stop using black cotton socks especially when I'm working the plate. I am also a runner and use socks that help keep my feet dry...I happend to use Nike Dry Fit, but I'm sure there are other brands out there that work just as well. The problem is that I can't find black socks that do the same thing. What are you guys using or are we all still using black cotton crew socks?

Another option is to use a thin synthetic liner under the regular black cotton crew socks. This might make your socks a little thick for your shoes but it works for me.

I wear Black Adidas Soccer socks.

They are tough as nails, so they last more than one season.

They wick sweat away well.

They go all the way up to your knee and stay there.

Give you a little cushion on your feet for those extra inning games.

I've switched this season to the Nike Dri-Fit baseball sock. Picked them up at Dick's Sporting Goods for about $10 a pair. Much more comfortable than the traditional cotton sock, IMO.

I have used soccer socks up until this year. I could not stand the straps of my shin gaurds on my bare skin so the soccer socks pulled up to my knees seemed to be the only way to go. Very hot though in the summer. This year, I have purchased the full length Mc david compression pants and will try them with the regular cotton socks I wear when I do the bases. Unfortunately I cannot yet let you know if I like them because believe it or not... Every single game I have been assigned this year has been canceled because of the weather here in central NY State.

Black cotton crew socks get the job done for me. I just replaced my old ones this year (although the ones i just bought are kinda crappy).

I've wear long compressions every game bases or plate. it keeps me cooler. I just hate the cotton socks...as a runner, I know that cotton just sucks. Going to something like Nike DryFit has been heaven since I've been running...you know the saying...once you go to a DryFit type product, you'll never go back to cotton. Cotton will work for you...but try something else and you'll never go back to Cotton...I'm going to try the Dry Fit or the Under Armour...any other ideas would be great too...thanks guys

I also wear the McDavid tights with the Hex Padding. I still wear the Soccer socks, because the Shin Guard Straps rub the fabric on the tights, creating holes after only a season or two.

I don't wear the Cotton socks, but the nylon (I guess) socks. Much thinner, and not hot at all. I purchased them from Sports Authority.

I go with a ski sock. Or any type of hunting sock will work just as well.
