Depends on where you buy them. The prices mostly range from $4.50-$5.75/whistle.

I pay $10.00 (AUD) for a fox forty mini - with mouthgaurd. I pay $19.00 (AUD) for a fox forty classic - with mouthgaurd; and $10.00 without. I kind of get ripped off.

Not trying to be a jerk or a smart-a$$, but how many whistles do you need? I've been using the same Fox-40 for the last 2+ seasons (at least 100 games) and it's still in excellent condition. And yes, I wash it after every game, so it's not all crusty and nasty.

Now I always carry a couple extra whistles & lanyards just in case the one I'm using breaks (though that has never happened in my 7 years of officiating), but at least twice a year I end up loaning/giving one or the other to a partner who has forgotten or can't find his/hers.

Yes, but those whistles are always cleaned and sterile. Don’t you still have the same underwear of 2 years ago? Tide and bleach removes those challenging stains or germs, right?

I saw a report the other day on the local news about reusing water bottles and how there are germs still left on the bottles even if attempting to clean them on a regular basis. Now I am not saying that this is identical, but you might not be cleaning your whistle as well as you think you are. Then again, that is why I am not holding on to a whistle for 2 years. I might use two or three over a season. They do not cost that much money.

Peace
