I'm getting calls from schools for HS and MS games for this Fall. Now that USSF soccer season is over and I have some free time, it's time to check out all of my uniforms and gear - soccer, B'ball, and V'ball. Some time back, someone mentioned a type of whistle that I wasn't familiar with. It wasn't a Fox 40. I've got classics, CMG's, and Mini's --every variety except the Pearl. It wasn't the Acme Tornado. I have one of those. I want to say it was an athletic manufacturer's brand -- not Nike or Adidas, but one like that. Can anyone tell me what it was and if the whistles are good? Thanks. RR

Here is what was posted on the original thread -

MCBear: I prefer the Fox 40 Pearl, the Extreme, and the Molten WH.

Homer: I've a Fox 40 Pearl and a Mini-40 and use them pretty much interchangeably with no problems.

FMadera: I have an Acme Tornado, a Fox 40/Mini/Pearl, and the Mikasa clear whistle. The Tornado is not nearly loud enough for my liking, but the Foxes and the Mikasa all perform to my liking.

TimTaylor: I officiate both basketball and volleyball, and use both the Fox Classic 40-CMG and Mini-CMG. Both seem to work just fine & I have never had a problem being heard with either, but I've been told that my whistle definitely is on the loud side....

The Classic is noticeably louder, and for basketball in a loud, crowded gym it's what I prefer, but aside from those situations I mostly use the Mini - probably 75% of the time. The Mini is more comfortable for me, and my whistle of choice for volleyball.

There you have it, refnrev, the posts from your original post "whistles - opinion time" with the last post on March 14th. Good luck as you check out the various whistles.

The Mikasa is the one I have never seen. Anyone use one? Are they good? Where do you get them?

Mikasa International Whistle

I like them, though they are a little on the "cheap" side, but some super glue if it comes apart gets you back in business. Clear, distinct tone, and everyone will know it's YOUR whistle when you blow it. Great for multiple court situations.
