300 wins

and some huge amount of losses, right? Didn't the Phillies hit a record number of losses?

Since July 15 every Phillie loss is a new record.

Sox avoid the sweep, and Yanks are on the other side of one of those lopsided scores. Six games is a little closer than I'd like, obviously, but at least they're still in front. Lester's start was disappointing, but the offense finally woke up a little for the Sox.

Dodgers have been shut out three straight games, have lost 4 of 5 and 15 of 19. That's not a good stretch. Wonder how Grady Little's feeling lately.

FWIW, the Phillies already held the record for most losses by a professional team in any sport. In July, however, they hit the milestone of 10,000 losses.

Ah, right. I see.

I've got another question as well, completely unrelated to the Phillies. Did anyone see the Mariners game last night? We had a question about the play where the first baseman apparently didn't catch the ball, but the runner was ruled out. It was at the end of an inning. Can anyone explain the rule that was used for that out?

Sorry, this is the annual baseball fan thread, not the baseball rules forum. geeze...

Take yer baseball rules question over to them.

(Let me know what they say when you get your answer btw, I didn't see the game but can think of a number of ways this might happen.)

2nd inning today vs. Oakland.

Mags led off with a homerun.
2nd at bat in the 2nd, mags hit a 3-run homer.
Fun. :)

Not sure you ever heard the answer, but the ruling was "running lane interference," as the batter-runner did not have both feet within the running lane to first base and subsequently interfered with the first baseman's opportunity to make the play. The ball is dead, the runner is out, and other runners (if any) return if the interference is not the third out (as I think it was in this play).

Rule 6.05(k)

Yikes !

The Yanks are red hot, and now they've made the Indians red hot.
This ain't gonna be pretty. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sp...ilie/smash.gif

Old cheer from my HS: "Our team is red hot. Your team is diddly squat!"

Also: (when the other team was going to shoot a FT) "See that basket, see that ball, come on stupid, hit the wall!"

OK, I'll stop now. :p

Yo, Chuck........

When you do your Monday morning Sportscenter, don't forget to tell us all about Eric Gagne.

Personally, I'm kinda glad to see him in there in place of Okajima.

:(

He doesn\'t seem to be making the adjustment to set-up guy very well, does he? 4 game lead? Sox have been playing .500 ball over the last 50 games; Yankees have just been on fire. Seems like they\'re scoring 10 runs per game over the last couple weeks. Almost doesn\'t matter if you have a crappy pitching staff if your offense is doing that.

There\'s still 6 games left for the Sox and Yanks. Those two series will decide it, I think.

I heard that the Tigers have the most losses since the All-Star break in the AL. But that\'s small consolation for Sox fans. Maybe Mick and I can just commiserate.

Well, Chuck, the Yankees, as usual, certainly do seem to control the direction that the playoffs will be headed. If the Red Sox and the Tigers don\'t begin feeling a sense of urgency, then we will be singing "wait \'til next year".

Yeah, those poor, first place in their division Tigers. You really gotta feel sorry for them.

Geeze, what would you two do if you both weren\'t in first place in your respective divisions?:D
