The only way the sub could be denied was if the 45 second horn (or 20 second horn) had blown. Then it is too late by rule...

There was a test question on Part I this year on swapping subs like this.

I just heard the simple way to remember this rule...."you can always leave, but you can't come back in".

Kelvin, this situation was NOT following a time-out or intermission according to the OP.
