Question on an out of bounds play being discussed
by our local association. Player A steals ball, dribbles twice and momentum takes the player out of bounds, player leaves ball in bounds - player comes back in bounds and then controls ball again with a dribble. No other players have touched the ball in the mean time? Is this an out of bounds violation or not? |

Since it was his momentum that carried him out, I would be inclined to rule it an interrupted dribble when the ball got left behind. As such, I would have no violation. However, in a slightly different case where going OOB would be avoidable and was a choice, I would not consider it an interrupted dribble and would have a violation the moment the player steps OOB.
