I'm glad I work basketball

This has been a pretty big story in MN and Iowa. I'm glad I stay off the wrestling mats and on the basketball floor. http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pb.../1019/SPORTS08

In case you're too lazy to click the link:

Minneapolis, Minn. - Minnesota high school wrestling programs were suspended Tuesday because of a widespread herpes outbreak.

The Minnesota State High School League banned competitions and direct contact between wrestlers in practice until Feb. 6 after 24 cases of herpes gladiatorum were reported by 10 teams. The virus is spread by skin-to-skin contact, and symptoms include lesions on the face, head and neck.
Holy crap!

True, but a brawl ends eventually. The OP hangs on for the rest of your life.

YUCK! It's stories like this that make me carry a small bottle of Germ-X in my bag and rub it on my hands at the beginning, middle and end of games.

Did a game at a small NAIA college earlier this year...walked into the gym and there were signs everywhere warning about an outbreak of some thing with a name about 24 letters long - some form of staph infection, and warning people not to shower without shower shoes, not to touch water faucets with bare hands, etc., etc...did the game, stood on a bench to change afterwards, and went home without showering...still gives me the creeps to think about it...

In the past two years there was a transmittable skin infection going round during the football season, I think in the Southwest. Spread through the sweat left on the ball.

Try officiating on fields favored by geese all week.

I got the wipes and GermX in the car and my bag. First thing I do is hit the locker room sink to wash up. Simple soap and water works.

And then there's getting dirt off the baseball on a muddy day....

CT Wrestling

Here in Connecticut, we've had wrestling programs suspended because of ringworm (fugus infection) problems.

There's that soap nowadays that doesn't need water to lather or rinse. I keep a bottle handy - at work, in my car, in my referee's bag.

At CVS the other day, I picked up this pocket sanitizer spray that's about the size of a big writing pen. I'd like to find one like that a little shorter that I can keep in my pocket at pretty much all times.

I'm a big time germ-o-phobe. I wash my hands religiously and always after shaking hands.
