During the pregame with coaches and captains. I flip a coin and have the visiting team call heads or tails. Who ever wins the toss then they choose. If there is OT, then the home team calls the toss.
Ohhhh... that's for volleyball. Why not for basketball?

Maybe for the same reason that they don't let fat guys wear spandex.

When I coached in Maryland they actually DID use the coin toss!

I personally use the one-handed method. Through practice I've gotten fairly consistant. I do however make the players step back by stepping in between.

Up until a couple of years ago, Iowa girls started with a coin toss. Of course, up until about 15 years ago, the Iowa small schools played half court basketball.

I'd really hate to see the jump taken out of the game. It's part of the legacy of the earliest development of the game. Not to mention, it's a part of my playing past. I can deal with only having one jump per game now. But I'd feel like we were turning our backs on our roots if they eliminated it entirely.
