The Hand

We've all done it right? It was taught to me at camps actually. But I am hearing a new school of thought that the hand actually ticks the recipient off more than it does make your point that you've had enough.

If you give the hand - are you in a box that you have to T when he blows by it?

Do you give the hand?

I have never given " The Hand". But I make it clear when I have had enough...

I coach, and officiate, and as a coach, I like the hand cuz then I know if I go further I am warrented if I get a T. Therefore, as an official, I will give it for that very reason.

Take a look at the two players visable in the picture. I see anticipation of what's coming next with their coach blowing a gasket.

The "hand" is just a non-verbal warning, , same as a stop sign. If you're not going to follow up on any warning, be it verbal or otherwise, there's no use in using any of them in the first place imo.

But what we can't tell from the picture, what we couldn't possibly see, is did the ref say, "Talk to the HAND cuz the face don't understand!"

Persoanlly, I think it all depends on the situation. If you just blew a call and you know it, be prepared and understand that you deserve to take some flack.

Also, I don't think "the hand" should come up just because the coach says one thing to you. I think patience is a key and what is said is how you can measure it.

I don't think its a matter of the face not understanding......I just think the face does not care
