But what we can't tell from the picture, what we couldn't possibly see, is did the ref say, "Talk to the HAND cuz the face don't understand!"

Persoanlly, I think it all depends on the situation. If you just blew a call and you know it, be prepared and understand that you deserve to take some flack.

Also, I don't think "the hand" should come up just because the coach says one thing to you. I think patience is a key and what is said is how you can measure it.

I don't think its a matter of the face not understanding......I just think the face does not care

I prefer to call it the "stop sign." Calling it the hand, just sounds like some school girl fight and one girl is whisking her body around to tell the other girl off... anyways, I think the stop sign works. I don't use it often because I try to difuse the problem before it gets to that point.

I've only used it once this season in a BV Prep game, coach was yelling and yelling and yelling about a call my partner made. I walked over, answered the only legit question he had and walked away. He called time out to keep yelling at me, I gave him the "stop sign" and he turned around and coached his players... it worked.

I've tried a couple of time this year and had different affects from the hand. One time the coach knew it was enough. The second time the coach got embarrassed and continue until my partner just had enough and popped him one. I think it all depends on the situation.

IMO, whether the "stop sign" works or not is irrelevant. You've shown everyone in the gym (including the video) that you have had enough.

This is why it is recommended in this area. Even the video camera way way up there can see a stop sign.
