Time back on clock? I said "No."
As my partner and I were having a pre-game for the varsity game, the JV officials came into the room (having just finished their game) and described the following.
Fourth quarter, a couple of minutes left. Official calls a foul committed against a shooter that will result in two FTs. He reports it to the table and takes a position as trail opposite the table (two-person mechanics). Partner steps into the lane, indicates one FT, bounces the ball to the FT shooter and backs out. Trail apparently was not paying attention to what lead said. Kid takes a shot which bounces off the rim and is rebounded. Five seconds go by when original calling official realizes "Hey, that should have been two shots!" This official blows his whistle. Partners get together and decide to put five seconds back on the clock and have the FT shooter shoot his second FT (with lanes filled, to resume play as normal following a FT). These JV officials asked if they handled it correctly.
I responded that, aside from some preventative things that might have been done to prevent the problem, they DID handle the error correctly EXCEPT that they should not have added 5 seconds back. The time that ticked off stays off. Just double-checking here to see if anyone thinks my advice should have been different.
