IMO, if Team B goes straight down the floor and makes an attempt at a quick basket, I don't stop play until Team A gains possession of the ball. If Team B stops to set up and run an offense, then I blow the whistle, and get the player off the floor.
How about this . . . your scenario . . . BUT, Team A player is still on the floor but barely inbounds. Team A steals the ball from Team B at half-court and comes down to try to score. What do you do and when do you do it? |

once team A regained possession I would blow the ball dead -- not fair to allow team A to get an easy score AND then stop play for them to attend to their player and set up defense if possible.
Also I usually ask player if hes OK -- sometimes you can tell hes not and the question is not necessary -- but plenty of times they are on the floor for a couple seconds get up and get right back in it. |
