Throw-in travel... here we go again.

I was watching the Miami vs. Northwestern game last night. Towards the end of the game, a Northwestern player runs out of his 3-foot box on a spot throw-in. Official blows the whistle and signals a travel.

(Remember, he wasn't human, he was a D-1 official.)

I guess that's one way myths perpetuate themselves.

I didn't see it, but heard the announcer say "he traveled on the inbounds pass".

What signal do YOU use for this violation?

I was watching as well - the announcers didn't see what happened right away.

Correct mechanics would be open hand up to stop the clock, then point the opposite way, IMO.

There is no specific signal for this. Just whistle, open hand for the violation, and point the other way, just like jdw3018 suggested. You might also point to the throw-in spot. If the coach asks for an explanation, you can explain exactly what happened then. But showing the "travel" signal just seems to suggest a pivot foot was involved, which, of course, has nothing to do with the actual violation.

You have to point to the spot of the throw-in then give the direction you will be going (after a stop clock signal of course). That is the proper mechanic in NCAA Men's and NF.

Peace
