Even though you they are Veterans

Every year each official in my association gets evaluated by our assignor or other veteran officials. My turn was saturday night and had many things to work on. My evaluator, his turn was last night. he too had a lot to work on. I'm not sure how most of you feel or agree. It is so much easier to see things when you are not in the mix and the heat of the game. I was able to see what other officials did right or wrong. even though he was a 15 year veteran and does D1 ball he too had things to work on.

Any comments? or OpinionS!

They have not invented a perfect official yet. We all have things we need to improve on.

D-1 officials know how to call the game and manage the game. They may have some mechanical flaws, but they did not get to the top by missing calls or letting games get squirrely.

He might not have had things to work on. Many officials at those levels have established themselves long ago and no one cares what they do. Just the reality of the world we live in.

Peace

Without a doubt it is easy to sit and point out another's mistakes in any job where mistakes are a given. Can you think of a better example of this than basketball official? Two questions: Did you get any positive feedback from this evaluation, or was it only to point out things that need improvement?
What, if any, are the consequences of a negative evaluation? Does it affect the number and/or the quality of the games you guys call, or what?

None of us have done the perfect game, so it doesn't matter what game it is, something could've been done better. I agree with someone not actually working the game doing the evaluating. I appreciate the question from a partner, "Did you see anything I need to change or work on?" But, in reality, my answer would be, "No! I didn't see anything because I wasn't watching you, I was watching my area!!" You know what I mean. So someone sitting up in the stands can give you much better feedback on specific situations and plays. Another way is watching a videotape of the game. You would be surprised at how you really look vs. how you think you look on the floor.

It was a little of both. I got good and bad. fortunately I have two more chances. we do it with different partners. I will have two more partners on Friday and do it all over again. the reason with different partners is based on the level of your partner can either help or hurt you. So I will be with more experienced guys on Friday. so i have 2 of 3 chance to pull a good evaluation. Also fortunately for me. this is my 7th year and I have some past expereince which has been good. we'll see. I will also have different evaluators.

Just ask the coach from the last game you worked, LOL. Or the shirtless fans with the school colors painted on.
