Tough Situation #1

Same game. Very high level boys varsity. I am trail opposite table. A1 beats his primary defender, B1 and here comes B2 looking to establish position for a charge call on A1. As I pick up B2 to see if he gets there in time, I possibly missed B1 with a hand in A1's back. Collison and I have an offensive foul as I got a great look at B2. I was a comfortable distance from the play but still had trouble officiating both the back as well as the front sides. In playing the play back in my mind, I dont think I would have got a good look at B2 if I stayed with B1. Help!

Personally, with B2 coming in as a secondary defender, from the weak side I'm assuming, and trying to draw the charge, I would allow the L to officiate that play. I woiuld stay with the primary defender and trust my partner to pick up the secondary defender. But since you didn't really specify some things like location on the floor, B2's movement, etc. I'm guessing.

Good point. The play happened in the midcourt area, just inside the division line.

I'm having trouble picturing this above the arc, but if it's as you say, I wouldn't be worried about B1. If he already had a hand in the back before the play, you should probably have called it then.

But by the way, where was your partner?
