Calling timeout while air born (NCAA)

NCAA may no longer allow players to call timeouts while air born. Source:

Sure, it's a live ball. Yup, you've got player control. So sorry, but I can't grant you a TO.

Just one more exception.

the timeout rule would be like the nba...

from the nba rule book:

a player shall not be granted a timeout if both of his feet are in the air, and any part of his body has broken the vertical plane of the boundary line (including the midcourt line)...

the rule (if passed) should be very easy for each official to adjust...

It doesn't make it less stupid.

Dick Vitale has been advocating this rule change for years. I agree w/ Snaq though: just because you're falling OOB doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to call TO if you have control. I think it's actually one of the more head-up and hustle related plays that we see as officials.

Well, if you see you're going to fall out of bounds, you will still be able to call a time out, as far as you call it before breaking "the vertical plane of the boundary line".
