If I have the information correct, one of the new conferences is around 60% white. It would be hard to convince anyone that the motivation for that set of schools was race when the ratio nearly matches (within 1-2%) the diversity of the greater Chicago area (based on stats from the Chicago Tribune reporting the number of households in zipcodes where the Tribune is sold.)

I've seen some conference movement in Ohio lately.

Some was done because the schools have increased or decreased enrollment and there was no longer a competitive balance. Others were due to travel concerns. Still others because of politics within and between conference schools.

It sure does seem that when a bunch of suburban schools leave a conference to join a new one that they are leaving to attempt to create a "prestige" conference.

In Central Ohio the "prestige" conference is the OCC. They have generally bigger enrollments and they do often pay their officials more. Columbus City Schools have enough teams that they have their own Conference. The in between sized schools play in the Mid State and then the Catholic Schools have their own league. Those 4 groups represent 80% or more of all schools within a 45 minute drive.
