And the sun continues to rise in the east, and that bear continues to, well, you know...

Sox pull out another 9th-inning walk-off win. That makes two in the last three games against the Indians. And both off the same kid, Fausto Carmona. As happy as I am for the wins, I feel bad for this kid. He wasn't really trained as a "closer", and now has 2 blown saves in 3 days. That has to hurt the confidence. (Although a big part of me says that a major league pitcher should be able to get his first 3 guys out.)

Last night's was even worse than the first one. You give up a HR to Ortiz. . . Hey, he's beaten better guys than Carmona. But last night, he got the first 2 outs with K's. Then got 2 strikes on the next guy. . . then plunked him!! Then on the NEXT pitch, plunks the NEXT batter! Then walks another guy to load the bases. Then Loretta did his thing.

Since trading away their primary closer (Wickman) at the deadline last week, the Indians don't have a single pitcher on staff who has recorded a save this season. http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/NAS...it&timeFrame=1

Thumbs up Tar Heel signed.

DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers made pitching news on Friday, announcing that rookie star Justin Verlander will skip his Sunday start and that they've signed first-round draft pick Andrew Miller.

...Miller, who signed a four-year contract, finished 13-2 with a 2.48 ERA in 20 games at North Carolina this season. The lefthander won the Roger Clemens Award as college baseball's top pitcher and was named player of the year by Baseball America and pitcher of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound junior is North Carolina's all-time strikeout leader with 325. As a freshman and sophomore, Miller was 14-7 and earned second-team All-ACC honors each season.

Andrew Miller wasn't taken first because he was considered to be expecting too much money.

It's gotta be a concern for all of the Tiger's young pitchers. None of them have really pitched close to the 200 or so innings per year that are expected of MLB pitchers. Gotta watch those young arms.

They just keep winning anyway though, don't they?

Hey, I just noticed that the rating for this thread is up to 4 stars. Excellent. Who voted? If you haven't rated it yet, you should; but you should go back few pages and check out the World Cup Beauties that Tony posted for us. That should earn a 5-star rating from any of the guys here!!

Yeah, but against the freakin' Devil Rays? Jeez. Tavarez is useless, honestly. I know Papelbon blew the save, but that's only his 4th in about 30 tries. Tavarez seems to implode every other outing.

Yup, Mick, you didn't whine when the Tigers were losing a hundred games a year either. Man, they're on a season-long roll, and it doesn't look like it's ending either. As long as the kids keep pitching, they sure ain't gonna go away.

I'm not whining about losing to the Devil Rays so much. I'm not happy about it, but it happens. I'm just tired of seeing Tavarez blow games.
