Still scoreless at the 75 minute mark. Fun game.

Sure better than the US's first game. That was embarrassing.

You're catching soccer fever - I can tell. Next thing you know, you'll be bouncin' balls off the top of your head.

Why did they even bother playing the France/Switzerland game the other day? We all knew France was going to surrender, and the Swiss just want to stay neutral, so what's the final? 0-0. Go figure.

1) Joke involving Ron Jeremy censored by Mick.

2) England and Germany have now clinched spots in the second round. If they play each other, the game will be in France. Again. And Frenchman will just watch. Again.

Please speak American.

The "nil" affectation is something that announcers misunderstand. It is not a futbol term, it is Britspeak.

It you start saying zed instead of zee, you're a goner.

Isn't everyone beating the Cubs? What's special about that?

Sigh...

What's special about that is the number of Detroit fans at Wrigley Field.

Of the 42,000 that showed U.P. on Saturday, [from the sound on the radio] Tiger fans were very, very noisy. But, of course, what's not to be happy about in a picture perfect setting like that?

The Friday TV game showed a lot of fans in Tiger uniforms. That says a lot for Cubs fans. None of the Detroit fans' uniforms had any blood on 'em.

Also special is the fact that Mark Prior is supposed to make his annual start for the Cubbie's today.

Don't you dare miss it!

Like Christmas, it only happens once a year.

In other news.....

Yankees blow a 9-2 lead? How often does that happen? And Mariano coughs up the save! Wish the Sox were building a little cushion while the Yanks are so dinged up.

As far as all the furriners, I thought the officiating was a little weak in the US/Italy game. While I agree that Pope's second yellow was deserved, the red card against the US in the first half was a joke. I saw the replays after the game, but at the time I was listening to the game on my XM and after the Italian was ejected, the US broadcaster said, "The Americans need to be careful here, b/c referees tend to look for a reason to even up the sides." I don't really believe that, but boy it sure looked like prophecy when the US got that red card on a marginal foul.

Think we should have a poll on that?

Sigh....you fanboys will never change, will you? Blame the poor official....

I read in somebody's column today somewhere that this particular official was one of the ones that got tossed from the 2002 Cup. Maybe it's a case of "He's baaaaaack!" Personally, I don't have a clue whether a call is OK or not. Don't know enough about the rules or the game.

JR,
Your pre-game seems quite accurate.
Top of the first, 6 runs (3 HR) in, 1 out, one E by Prior.
YU.P. ... a lot like Christmas.

I just flipped it on; it's the second inning and he's still in there.

Who was it that said "Do you believe in miracles?".
