Blarge -- or was it?
Wa/Conn 12 to go in the first half. UConn player gets the ball in his own backcourt, everyone going the other way, WA player jumps in front of dribbler, new trail blows whistle, raises fist, C comes in with the charge signal. Announcers (idiots!) say, "Oh, we've got one ref overruling the other!" But I'm not sure C overruled. I was thinking it was a blarge, but looking back over it tonight, I think the new trail just didn't signal, since he saw C coming in strong. Anyone else want to pile on the announcers with me?

Ok, there is exactly 12:11 on the clock in the 1st half. Washington had just scored and UConn inbounded and is coming up the court. It is two on two in the backcourt. The Trail is tableside about 15 ft behind the dribbler. The C is 4 ft in the backcourt opposite the table. The C is looking directly at the dribbler who is at the 28 ft line on the other side of the court. The ball is outside of the far lane line from the C.
The C is the first one to hit the whistle on the play. The T then has a whistle. The T does NOT signal a prelim just the fist. The C runs all the way over and calls a PC. Despite what Raftery says, that is the right call. The defender established intial LGP and moved to maintain it. The contact wasn't great, but did have to be called. The C was Patrick Adams. I can't tell John Higgins and Steven Skiles apart, but one of them was the T and the other the L. |
