Take your choice.

Stackhouse whined about the official; Horry tried to bite Stackhouse.

I think Rich's query was is this a dig on Bavetta or one of the players, in terms of poor role model?

If Bavetta, I'm at a loss for why.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya, at the vulgarity of these baskteball players!

Some of these people should eat a bar of soap.

Oh?

That's what youths think of you as a role model.

I suggest they look elsewhere.

ummm...yeah.

I've got a real problem with a guy getting paid serious jack and acts like a complete idiot...I can't imagine getting paid like these guys do and having the nerve to go out onto the court and question ANYTHING that the official does...

I saw the game. Mavericks were frustrated and used Bavetta as a scapegoat. Bowen completely took Dallas out of their game with his defense on Dirk. Stackhouse actually fouled Horry when he crashed in and they got tangled. Then Horry gave Stack a little love-nibble on the arm..and Stack went nuts! Both players got a T. Horry got suspended for grabbing Bavetta and trying to show him what happened ! Horry's an old guy, he didn't mind the extra 2-game rest anyway! Stack is an emotional player who should cool off after he thinks about it...and being $30,000 poorer should help him think about not saying anything like that again!

Yes, Stackhouse was completely out of line in his comments. But, LOOKINGTOIMPROVE, your comment above is completely unrealistic. Most of us who officiate have, and maybe still do, play team sports. And we all have questioned officials. It's part of the game and it's part of our job as officials to deal with it in its varying degrees on the court.

SARCASM MODE ON

BadNews, you are sadly mistaken if you think any of us officials types that still play team sports say anything to our refs or umps when we play!! We are quiet as church mice!!

I declare!

I wouldn't say I was the worst as a player, but I definitely wasn't the best either. I'm retired from 22 years of military service. I played plenty of post/base team level basketball as well as intra-murals. I look back on some of my antics as a player and all I can say is "WOW". Remembering what an idiot I was capable of being on the court contributes greatly to my ability not to take anything personally as an official. I try my best to deal with inappropriate behavior in a unemotional, business-like manner. And when the game is over, it's over. I don't hold anybody's on-court behavior against them. If I happen to bump into them away from the court. I greet them and talk them as if nothing happened.
