At one of my JV games earlier this year we had a fat guy sitting at mid-court who questioned every call. He wasn't swearing or anything like that, but he was very obnoxious. My partner and I couldn't do anything right. If we call a foul on the visiting team he'd ask why didn't you call it earlier. If we call a foul on the home team, well, you can imagine how he acted. We pretty much tuned him out.

Anyway, in the varsity game he's complaining to the referees just like in our game. I notice in the second quarter, he is no longer talking. At halftime, I asked the referees about it.

One of the refs said to him, "I hope your car can pick up this game on the radio (small town and a local radio station was broadcasting the game), because if you don't shut up that's the only way you're going to know who wins."

I don't know what he would have said to him if the game wasn't on the radio!

Maybe "I hope you buy the local paper...."
