check out the picture about halfway down on this thread...looks like there was contact, patrick went up, MSU player moved in, contact...

one ref motions for foul prior to shot going in, shot goes in, he doens't call foul

players decide games, and MSU player decided to move in and foul Patrick...the ref knew it, called it, called it off in a bad decision

I wasn't going to look at the link, but #2 above got me curious. That thing is awful!

Also, I'm wondering fi there were two different broadcasts of this game. There's no way there was any ref signalling any foul in any of the replays I saw. I don't know what anyone is talking about.

#2 - That is actually a bear. It had climbed into the tree above the tramp. Here's a link to the story and video http://www.local6.com/news/2469188/detail.html

Juulie,

I think those reasonable, non-biased ;) fans in the other thread got confused by the officials' signal for the 3-attempt, and the subsequent "count it" signal when the buzzer went - they thought (erroneously) that the preliminary signal was for a foul, and the next signal was for an "and one".

If the official signalled the "3" with the middle, ring, and pinky fingers, maybe someone confused the rest of his fingers as making sort of a fist - I don't know.

What I don't get is this idea that there was a WHISTLE - although there could have been one at the buzzer signalling the expiration of the clock - that, combined with the above, could have had some (uninformed and ignorant) Kentucky fans thinking they got robbed of a free throw to win it.

Just shooting at shadows....

I initially confused the three fingers for a fist and I too thought I heard a whistle. When I saw Burr slam it home, with the three fingers no longer there, my immediate reaction was that the call was a two point basket and a foul. In fact, I turned to my wife, and said, "wow, big pressure free throw here." It was the absence of a touchdown and the slamming it home, plus the apparent whistle that confused me. On tivo, replaying it, it was clear there is no fist, which makes the whole debate silly, although there is something that sounds like a whistle.

Why did Burr slam it home? To signal that the shot was released before the expiration of the game, I guess. On the replay, I didn't see any foul, other than perhaps P/C.

I would also like to know what all the fuss is about Chuck Hayes. It's not like he was the best player in college or anything. There are a lot of guys that have lost to feel sorry for besides Hayes. :)

Why not use a td signal for "count it". That would have been far less confusing. Or do the three, then the slam, then the td.

TD, then "count it" is the correct mechanic, I believe....but in the heat of that particular moment, I guess they altered it a bit.

I doubt the evaluator will bring it up, :) They tend to give those Regional Final crews a bit of latitude, right? :D

"You got beat, he did not get fouled, your friend did not see/hear a foul called, and it was a 2 point shot to boot...Your season is over now go away." (Posted by Blind Z)

BlindZ, LOL, LOL! You crack me up! Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think! I love it!

Comments: My TV showed the foot at the line magnified several times. It was a bit fuzzy but looked like a three to me.
Foul? I questioned that too but saw that replayed too and I saw no foul. Good "no call".
The ball bounced around because it was thrown in despiration with very little height. It's a wonder it went in.
What's even more lucky is that he ever got the ball back to begin with.

Great game - GO SPARTANS

SEC woes

I teach 7th grade. I feel like Tubby is one of my students. Good grief...

I thought the play was handled and called perfectly. The picture you want us to look clearly shows shooter jumping into defender who appears to have legal guarding position...and even giving position away to the shooter to avoid the foul.

Now, I have seen no mention of UK blowing a 4 point lead in the first OT. How can you pin this one at the stripes? MSU clearly was struggling out of the gate in the first OT with the events that transpired. Yet, UK was unable to take advantage of a nice comeback effort and seal the deal.

Oh...and thank you Illinois, MSU, and Wisconsin for salvaging the Big 10's season.

Who dressed up that dog to look like a bear?
Maybe....just maybe, it's a rare breed of bear dog.

It's amazing that when he got a good look and actually "shoots" the ball, he airballed it. Then, with time running out he steps back, ducks a defender, flicks it up there and it goes in.
