what does everybody think about the pretty recent fox 40 cmg's. I have not decided whether I like them or not yet because they start to fray after about a month of use with me, but I think they look good.

I contemplated getting the CMGs, but I ended up gettin a bunch of classics. I don't tihnk the CMG is all that nice, attracts dirt/dust during football season.

They aren't "recent." I've used them for several years. Wouldn't use anything else.

Don't use the same whistle every night and they won't fray on you. I rotate 2 or 3.

I tried one and didn't like it. It is too thick. It kept my jaw open an uncomfortable amount.

Oh man, I see some rather nasty jokes coming after that post.

For whatever reason, Fox made the CMG whistle bigger than the classic - it's wider by what looks like a fraction of an inch - and that's BEFORE they put the cushion grip on. I held the two side by side and the CMG is bigger.

If they'd just put a cushion grip on the regular size classic, it might be more comfortable to hold in your mouth....

Uh-oh, speaking of crude jokes coming on....

We've had this conversation before. Some guys swear by the CMG (Tony, for example). If you're not crazy about it, other guys have suggested using rubber pipe bits (Tanner) or wrapping the whistle with hockey tape (me). The thing I like about the tape is that I don't have to worry about it collecting germs. The tape comes off after each game.

I soak my whistle in moonshine after each game so it doesn't collect germs. That is if there is any left once I quench my thirst.

I've got several CMGs. They are ok, it is true they are bigger. Like Chuck said, I put a rubber pipe bit on my, it's not as thick as the CMG. I too rotate my whistles, one night it could be a Classic w/ pipe bit with the Smitty lanyard, a Classic with a Smitty Noose another night, or a Classic with the Smitty. Choices choices....

I use the CMGs. I went to them I think two years ago and really like it. I tend to bite down when things get intense and have cracked a couple classics. The CMGs hold up for me. I rotate 2 or 3 and soak em in listerine over night a couple times a season.

Works well for me.

I am a big fan of the CMG especially after a collision with a player last year caused me to take a face first tumble to the floor.

Whistle never left my mouth.

I'm not sure where Chuck gets his tape. Probably at a local store. However the pipe bits you should be able to get at a local pipe shop, or Honig's has them. They are located in their catalog (#PB) on page 2 under "Tip Guards".

If we could keep the discussions pertaining to issues we have on the floor and around the game of basketball please.
(Sorry - couldn't help myself)
