That's true - except it's spelled Poca Dots. I actually do basketball and softball games there. ESPN did a special on HS nicknames a few years ago and featured The Dots as #1.

Some other unusual or interesting ones we have are:

The Clay Battelle Cee Bees
Stonewall Jackson Generals
Cammack Blue Streaks
Ceredo Kenova Wonders
Buffalo Bison
Up north in the town of Weirton and the high school is Weir High (pronounced we're) - needless to say, the students chant "We're High" at all the games.:D

We have Papermakers in our part of Wisconsin too, (Kimberly) as well as Polar Bears (Hortonville). In high school, we played the Wabasso Rabbits. They thumped us.

The Vincennes Lincoln High School (Indiana) sports teams are known as the Alices, after a famous song, 'Alice of Old Vincennes.' The funny thing is that the boys teams are the Alices and the girls teams are the Lady Alices.

I grew up in Illinois and remember the Appleknockers very well. I think one year, the five starters were all related to each other and were all named "Smith".

Also in Illinois we had the Kankakee K's (what else?) and possibly the most offensive name (along with Washington Redskins), the Pekin Chinks (no, I am not kidding).

I've heard of their grandmother.

I know it was a hockey team, but I still like the Macon Whoopies.

WA has the Richland Bombers, Hanford Nuclear site is close by, and the hs logo is a mushroom cloud.

Also, Blaine Borderites, on the Canadian border. The logo is a monument on the border in town. But, a few years ago they had somebody in a tiger suit at games as a mascot. I have no idea what a tiger had to do with the town or school.

In Henryetta, Oklahoma they used to be the Hens. Either both teams got tired of the name or maybe just the boys teams but now they've changed it.

Troy Aikman was a Hen growing up.

Connecticut

East Hampton, Connecticut "Bellringers", used to be a bell factory in town.

Moodus, Connecticut "Little Noises" (Native Americans heard noises from the ground probably caused by minor earthquakes, possibly caused by elastic rebound after the glaciers melted after the most recent glacial period.

When Darryl "Mouse" Davis coached the football team at Portland State University, the team was jokingly called the "Fighting Mice".

My son's favorite is the woman's basketball team at Wake Forest - the "Lady Demon Deacons".
