Here in the Canadian Football League, at one point we had two teams in the league with the same name.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Ottawa Rough Riders. So, you could argue that they're different names. You can also argue that they're the same name. Either way, being a fan of Canadian football is awesome!

There are some others names. These are what I remember off the top of my head.

Peace
I had Freeport this season. In WI we have the Nekoosa Papermakers. I'll think of more.

They are the New Berlin Pretzels. (That's New BER'-lin, not ber-'LIN).

Here is a link to the IHSA website:

Kind of like Athens, IL (pronounced Ay-thens) and San Jose, IL where the "J" makes the "J" sound and not the Spanish "H" sound. and the "E" is silent.

Thanks for the proper pronuncitions(sp?). I used to live in Athens -- more than a little confusing when you try to explain where you're from.

You Central Illinois guys help me out, my father-in-law has made mentioned two great names from the area.

One is the Bunnies -- I cannot remember what town they're from, but there's a mascot that will strike fear in the hearts of all challengers.

The other is the BlueBoys -- I believe that's Carthage.

Arkansas Tech University is the WonderBoys

Lsams,
You're right. Carthage is the Blueboys. Having formerly lived in Monmouth, though, you gotta like the Zippers! RR

Being a Cowboy fan, we call them the "Deadskins". I wish we played them 16 times a season. Can you say 13 of the last 14?
Being an Eagles fan, we refer to them frequently as the 4-skins.

I play in a rec ball league here in Japan. Alot of teams pick English names for themselves. We get a few funny names that maybe made sense in Japanese but sound strange after they translated them into English:

We've played the:
Penetrators
Hernian
and my personal favorite: Vague.
I am just waiting for someone from team vague to ask me what their team name means. "Oh that's tough to define. Your team name is kind of unclear"

Nimrods were defeated by Posen in the quarterfinal game, by one, in overtime.

DeKalb H.S. of Illinois is nicknamed "Barbs", as barbed wire was invented in DeKalb in 1873.
