Ten year old girls game so you figure there would be no problems. Laughable I know. My partner had an attitude about him that sad he did not really care to be there, and on several occasions cited his vindinctive thoughts on how he would "T" up this coach' or this guy is next. Though he never threw and "T's" he did hang me out to dry. Check this out:
Going to inbound the ball following a time-out. He carelesly walks over and while I am tying my shoe inbounds the ball to the wrong team. I am at fault her for many reasons. One for assuming we were on the same page, and two for not double checking who was going to get the ball.
As if it could not get any worse, the wrong team takes the ball down and scores. The coah from the oposing team cals a time-out and wants to challenge this under a correctable error, which avcording to teh book is not.
How do you tell a coach that you screwed up so bad that you cannot take away two points that but the opposing team up by two?
HOLY CHIT!!!! Over and OVer I kept saying to myself, and srcarfed spoonful after spoonful of humble pie trying to expain this to the guy.
I love youth games for the trouble that rears its head no matter how you handle things.
Curious as to how you guys would have explained that to the coach?

There is no satisfactory explanation, as far as the coach is concerned. You explain it once and eat one slice of humble pie, including one dignified apology, and one statement that you won't let any more mistakes sneak in. You let the coach complain for a few seconds to your face, then walk away. He gets a small amount of leeway after this, but don't let him eat you alive. Then you work your butt off the rest of the game. And be sure your partner knows that you don't appreciate being hung out to dry like this.

After screwing this up last year (Team A to get ball for throw-in...Team B calls time out....We give the ball to team B, I guess since they called the timeout), This is ALWAYS discussed in pregame...we will always verbalize with each other who is getting the ball, where they are getting the ball, if it's a spot or run the endline, BEFORE we grant the time out. Similarly, for a free throw, if a time out is called..identify the shooter, and how many shots they are getting, before we grant the time out.

Snake -- you forgot the most important part of this sentence, namely the smilie. You ARE joking, right?

Do-overs are legal.

Friday night during a GV game, Guest team is horrible and down by 30 so all the third stringers are in. Inbounds play right by the G bench. I show spot and say "right here in front of your coach so you can impress him with this bounce pass". The girl does a chest pass and I say "that's not a bounce pass". She gets her teammate to pass right back and turns and starts walking then passes the ball to me. Obviously realizing that she was nervous and trying to obey the ref, I blew my whistle and said "re-set, red ball here".

I think the coach wet his pants holding in his laugh. I felt sorry for her and didn't want to mess her up anymore.

With 10 year olds I would be inclined to just wipe the basket and re-do the throw in as well. It's clearly a mistake and it is 10 year olds. What's the harm?

When we live in a society that is all about winning, in this situation someone wsa going to lose. So I went bythe code of the rule book. though I agree witha do over.

I'm not a hard-nose as a rule, but in anything above 10 year old gym class, I don't think you can have a do-over and admit to it afterward. If the basket hadn't been scored yet, it would be a little less troublesome, but still not "according to Hoyle". I sure wouldn't do it in a high school game. Regardless of what Chris says, do-overs aren't legal in this situation.

I'd do it over as well. And I'd be the only one in the place knowing I didn't have the authority to do it, by rule

There is no "by the book" on a ten year old girls game. Do it over.
