In my experience over 40 years I have found that coaches "work"the officials who listen to them and also those that try to control coaches with the "T'. It takes a while to get the respect of the players ,coaches, and fans and you never get it thru the use of the "T". "T"s" are a useful tool if used judiciously- If you find you are giving too many take a look in the mirror and do a self evaluation. I know many very highly rated officials and they have common characteristics- one of those characteristics is that they are very good game managers and rarely have to revert to the "T" as a management tool.

great line that works for me...
Sometimes, as officials, we have an assistant coach that forgets he's JUST an assistant coach. A quick one-liner that works great for me is (to the head coach within earshot of the assistant) "Coach, he's gonna get you in trouble."
It puts the head coach in a position where he has to take control. The assistant also knows his place now. Try it...
