Since you have a learning attitude and I'll add two things just to prepare you for those unusual situations:
1. if you are shooting three free throws and the ball lodges or comes to rest on the flange on the second attempt, you just go on to the third.
2. if you are shooting a T or an intentional foul, or something which is going to be followed by a throw-in, and the ball lodges or comes to rest on the final attempt, you simply proceed to the throw-in as you would have.
The rule quoted by JR below is written such that these situations are covered.
