Wha happened??!!

I turned on Fox sports to watch the big game and they were replaying some old Little League game...the "visitors" (team up first) were very shaky, their pitcher took a batted ball off his ankle early in the game (geeze I hope he's OK) and they did a little better after that - at least the kid that came in could get the ball over the plate. The "home" team didn't get enough of a lead to stop the game but it was close.

So Chuck, how did your game at the stadium go?

Little League?

I've seen better defensive plays in my brothers' farm system games!

Yankees outscored 'em 27 to 8. Not too shabby.

Man, oh, man. :(

The sweet Italian sausage was pretty awesome, tho.

The Philly ballpark is awesome. Design features borrowed heavily from PNC in Pittsburgh.

Dan was oh so supportive, by the way, in my time of despair. I've since deleted his number from cell phone. :p

Now what did I do?

Geeze, see if I ever call to ask if you're having fun again.

Hard to believe the Yankees can take 2 of 3 from the Bosux and then let Toronto beat 'em 13-6.

Hard to believe the Sox can lose to the Orioles, but we've been doing it all season long . . .

Class act.

It was Ruben Sierra that did not take out the Pitcher's wrist on the last out of the 8th.
Very nice to see.

So much for the division.

Is it my imagination, or did the Red Sox manager leave Pedro in the game in the 8th inning when everybody knew he was done? Was that last night? Or was it last October?

Could we please get a manager who knows what the bleep he's doing? Unbelievable.

Jurassic Referee Sat Sep 25, 2004 07:20am

Hey, we like Terry Francona just as much as we liked Grady Little. :D

I honestly can't figure these guys out. Pedro is only good for a maximum of about 100 pitches or 7 innings. He was obviously laboring. Get his a$$ outa there. And is Foulke injured? Or are they saving him for the wild card race? Timlin looked like he was done too before he gave up that insurance run. Hell, with all the weird things Francona was doing, I'm kinda surptised that he didn't bring Byung Kim in. I ain't complaining, though.

Manny scares the hell outa me when he's got a bat in his hands. Fortunately, his glove seems to be made outa wood too.

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

We were not trying to catch the Yankees. You were never gonna catch those guys. They're the best and they do so many things right. Maybe we can be like the Marlins now and win the wild card, then go on to win it all.

That doesn't sound like quitting to me. I think it's just realistic after the Baltimore series. I actually came to Manny's conclusion after last weekend in NY.

All those quotes about not quitting, and you couldn't come up with anything from Jimmy V?

I know it's completely off-topic, even for this thread, but this is from JimmyV.org:

Quote:

I was coaching at Rutgers University, that was my first job, and I was the freshman coach. So my idol as a coach was Vince Lombardi, and I read this book called "Commitment To Excellence" by Vince Lombardi. And in the book, Lombardi talked about the fist time he spoke before his Green Bay Packers team in the locker room, and they were perennial losers. Lombardi, what he said was he didn't go in, he waited. His team wondering, where is he? Where is this great coach? He's not there. Ten minutes he's still not there. Three minutes before they could take the field Lombardi comes in, bangs the door open, and I think you all remember what great presence he had, great presence. He walked in and he walked back and forth, like this, just walked, staring at the players. He said, "All eyes on me." I'm reading this in this book. I'm getting this picture of Lombardi before his first game and he said "Gentlemen, we will be successful this year, if you can focus on three things, and three things only. Your family, your religion and the Green Bay Packers." They knocked the walls down and the rest was history. I said, that's beautiful. I'm going to do that. Your family, your religion and Rutgers basketball. That's it. I had it. I'm practicing outside of the locker room and the managers tell me you got to go in. Not yet, not yet. Then finally he said, three minutes, I said fine. True story. I go to knock the doors open just like Lombardi. Boom! They don't open. I almost broke my arm. Now I was down, the players were looking. Help the coach out, help him out. Now I did like Lombardi, I walked back and forth, and I was going like that with my arm getting the feeling back in it. Finally I said, "Gentlemen, all eyes on me." These kids wanted to play, they're nineteen. "Let's go," I said. "Gentlemen, we'll be successful this year if you can focus on three things, and three things only. Your family, your religion and the Green Bay Packers," I told them. I did that. I remember that. I remember where I came from.
:)

Don't give up. Don't ever give up.
