Yup.
Quote:
In this case, since the teammate jumped from his back court, but was in the air when he caught the ball, has not yet gainied front court status. So we have a front court player passing the ball to a back court player. Violation. |

Use 4-35-3 in conjunction with 9-9. If he feels confused by all the verbiage, sum it up with these four items of backcourt violation:
1. Team control by Team A 2. Ball has achieved frontcourt status. 3. Player from team A is last to touch ball as it leaves the frontcourt 4. Player from team A is first to touch ball as it gains backcourt. Team control, front court, last to touch, first to touch. |

Re: Backcourt Violation
Quote:
The location of a player or nonplayer is determined by where the player is touching the floor as far as being: a. Inbounds or out of bounds. b. In the frontcourt or backcourt. c. Outside (behind/beyond) or inside the three-point field-goal line. 4-35-3 The location of an airborne player with reference to the three factors of Article 1 is the same as at the time such player was last in contact with the floor or an extension of the floor, such as a bleacher. |

NAILED this one this weekend. A1 is bringing the ball upcourt, ball gets tapped around a lot, B1 ends up with the ball, has control, then fumbles and loses it, off of B2, when B3 comes sliding in from the backcourt. Ball is on the floor in B's frontcourt, B3 taps the ball, but his toes are still dragging in the backcourt - whistle, point to the foot, going the other way.
Then called a dumb T to end my tourney hopes . . . But at least I got the call right!

He noticed some water on the floor following a TO. Or maybe, he put the ball down on the floor and started a five count. |

I was working a quarterfinal game, and had called a T only 2:30 in, when the captain of black said "Are you f***ing kidding me?" after a no-call. Near the end of the second half, I had the backcourt, and the guy who had slid took the ball and slammed it down - bouncing up about 8-10 feet in the air. I called the T, and at halftime got a reminder of the 3T rule from a not-so-happy tournament director. In talking with my supervisor later that night over dinner, he pointed out that the guy was probably more upset at himself than at me, and that I could have gotten away with a warning, and also told me that I didn't make too many friends on the evaluating committee with that call. After that incident, I didn't work a single game on Sunday. I don't think I was a lock to work the semi's, but I think this completely eliminated my chances and put me back on scorebook. Best part, though - the team on which I called the T's was staying in the same hotel as the refs . . . on the same floor.

What?
They have anger management T's and they blame your T on them for being tossed from the tournament? What the heck is going on here? Seems like it is their problem not yours! I can see why they have problems if that is the kind of support you get from your supervisors. Sound like the people who are in control have lost control and not you. What about all the other T's they got? Were they not the offending teams fault? One call did not cost them the ejection! Your supervisor said the anger was not directed at you? What a cop out? How does he know? Sounds like inept supervision! It is always easier to blame the officials and to have supervisors like that can only compound the problems and quite frankly it is apparent that the tournament has some real issues to deal with.
