This regional had a rule of 3T's in a game, and the team forfeits the game. 5T's total, and they're out of the whole tourney.
I was working a quarterfinal game, and had called a T only 2:30 in, when the captain of black said "Are you f***ing kidding me?" after a no-call. Near the end of the second half, I had the backcourt, and the guy who had slid took the ball and slammed it down - bouncing up about 8-10 feet in the air. I called the T, and at halftime got a reminder of the 3T rule from a not-so-happy tournament director.
In talking with my supervisor later that night over dinner, he pointed out that the guy was probably more upset at himself than at me, and that I could have gotten away with a warning, and also told me that I didn't make too many friends on the evaluating committee with that call. After that incident, I didn't work a single game on Sunday. I don't think I was a lock to work the semi's, but I think this completely eliminated my chances and put me back on scorebook.
Best part, though - the team on which I called the T's was staying in the same hotel as the refs . . . on the same floor.
